YOU EVER THINK ABOUT HOW WE KINDA WERE CREATED HATING EACH OTHER? FELT LIKE WE HAD A CHOICE IN THE MATTER, BUT WE DIDN'T.

[Bill looks down at their hands.]

NOT THAT WHAT HAPPENED DIDN'T HAPPEN. STILL DID, STILL MY FAULT! THINGS CAN BE REAL AND NOT REAL AT THE SAME TIME.

[mothmansplaining]

We were created wanting things that were fundamentally incompatible.

MAKES FOR A GOOD STORY!

[Bill is only angry about it in the very very core of himself - he rarely ventures in there, so the rest of him can take it all pretty lightly.]

YOU'VE SAID THAT BEFORE. DO YOU REALLY THINK SO?

[mothmansplaining]

I think we were made to be that way. But I don't think it's true anymore.

[tetractys]

NAH, OF COURSE NOT ANY MORE. WE FIXED IT AS SOON AS THEY LET US!

[mothmansplaining]

Ha ha. Well, I -- I think that's an oversimplification.

[They both worked very hard, and made a lot of compromises, and had to change in big ways. Ford was put through a lot because of Bill going after what Bill still wanted!]

NAAAH, WE'VE GOT THIS. THREE YEARS, THAT'S NOTHING!

[Bill squeezes his hand.]

[mothmansplaining]

[It'd be fun to let himself get caught up in that easy confidence. Three years is a significant length of time, but frankly, compared to the 30+ they've known one another, it's been a whirlwind romance.]

Those three years involved some pretty big changes.

[tetractys]

YEAH, IN ME YOU MEAN.

[mothmansplaining]

And me.

[tetractys]

YOU GRADUATED, BUT I NEVER THOUGHT YOU WERE THAT BAD OF A GUY.

[mothmansplaining]

But when I found out about what was really going on -- with the nature of our reality, with the Director -- I did change, Bill. The world got a lot smaller -- and a lot bigger. And I wanted to change my place in it. I was willing to do a lot of things to make sure of that.

I MEAN, YEAH, I HELPED WITH THAT. YOU KNOW, WITH THE PUSHING YOU INTO STUFF.
